I have a Gateway 21" widescreen LCD http://accessories.gateway.com/Accessor...81955/1534243_proddetail.htm?ref=merch.

The USB hub has failed.
I get a "Unknown Device" in the XP pro SP2 device manager under USB Controller.

It is still under warranty. I have contacted Gateway and they have asked me to do all sorts of things all related to the OS with no luck.

I restored my XP installation (Drive Image) with no success.
Uninstalled all USB controllers under Device Manager in safe mode and rebooted with to luck.

Before asking them to send me another monitor, I would like to be sure that it is a hardware problem.

How do you suggest I do that?

One way would be to connect it to a different system that works perfectly. One of the things that could cause that effect is not enough power to the monitor's hub.

I have a gateway 22' and the usb hub burnt up... Scorched the USB cable 12 inches.. Luckily it didn't damage anything connected to it..

Ironically, I have several "problems" with my Gateway's USB hub not detecting properly and installing properly various USB devices.

Thanks for your posts.
I am going to have them send me another one since it is still under warranty.
