Gateway LX mobo/CPU question...

My brother has a Gateway which is running a P2-300 on thier LX mobo. I would like to upgrade the CPU for him, but how fast of a CPU can a LX mobo take? He does have pc100 memory, so a faster P2 or Celeron is what I am looking for, if possible.

It might be able to take a 566 Celeron with a slotket. He can't go any higher than 333 with a Pentium II.

i put a celeron 400 into one of those boards. BIOS says 333 but WCPUID says 400.

didn't try the slotket. might work though.

433 is the highest slot 1 Celeron. Its probably an Intel AL440LX motherboard, so you can flash it with the latest BIOS and have it recognize the 433 at bootup. Up to 566 should work with slotkey, but I haven't tried.
