There is a small risk GW bloated the specs a bit (40W/channel, 70W sub); however, that's unlikely. I ordered this one on Sunday, will see how it stacks up against my Onkyo TX-SR600.

Edit: The spec is correct--this is true 40W/ch Class-D DVD receiver

LOL the Onkyo will win. No contest.

I suspect more than just a small risk that those specs are inflated. Those are definitely MAX not RMS ratings.

PS: I'm not crapping on this deal though. That's a fine price for a progressive scan DVD player and the other features are bonuses.

Got the Class-D amp/DVD from GW (see the 1st post), put it through some testing this weekend and love it. It beats those Abit iDome ?digital? speakers hands down:
* has both optical and coax inputs
* has 6 Class-D amps for true 5.1-channel operation, runs both powered and non-powered subwoofers (so if you got one of those $20 sub boxes from auto parts store you can try it ;-)
* configurable for either 2.1 or 5.1 operation depending on the amount of speakers you have
* RMS power rating is 40W per channel--true
* DVD reader is included as a ?bonus?

The only grief is that speakers are not included in $59 price?well, that would be a stretch, isn't it?

Sound quality: subjective testing against Onkyo TX-SR600 running the same speakers/sub/signal source. I cannot hear any difference until I crank-up the volume to about -3db. At that level the music is LOUD and Gateway runs near its rated 5x40W capacity-it?s audible :-( Onkyo?s 110W per channel rating allows running the same sh!t effortlessly (my neighbor might not like it at all :)

Bottom line: I would not recommend this amp for a large living-room HT set-up; however, it is the best choice for medium room or for PC gaming with 2.1 or 5.1 config. Sound is great and you can?t beat the $59 price.

Edit: These speakers would be nice ;-)
