Gateway Laptops?

Hi everyone-

I was researching and looking to buy a laptop. Not looking for anything SUPER powerful. Have a good desktop at home. My question is has anyone used or evaluated a gateway laptop? Are they good? Good in a sense that it won't break down right after the warrenty ends. Cause gateway is running a really good deal on a laptop and i'm trying to decide whether to buy it or not.

If you guys want to know the spec. here's the link

Any feedback would be awesome. Again not looking to do anything extreme with it. Just be able to run office programs and stuff.

Thanks.

That seems like a good deal. My parents have a gateway laptop that I use for school all of the time, and it's awesome. It looks like a good deal for a basic laptop. BTW - have you looked @ their refurbished section? They have some even better deals there 🙂

Glad you asked! 🙂 I got a Gateway 9300cx in the summer of 2000, and it has been the best computer I have ever owned (includes 4 other laptops.) It came with 98Se, then a free upgrade to ME, and now its running XP Pro. In all honesty - I have toted this 15.6-in LCD moose to Europe, all over the USa and it has never, ever locked up, frozen or crashed. It is one amazing laptop. It has a unique feature that few laptops have - two modular units - the CD/DVD/CDRW option (commmon to most) but also the floppy is modular and can take a LS-120 or a second HDD! That is a feature I would never be without. It lets me close my main HDD to a backup drive, remove it and put it away. That makes for 100%, very quick redundancy in case of a major glitch or virus. So far, that has not been needed, but I keep it up to date anyway.

As for the awesome 15.6-in screen - it makes DVD movies a cineramic experience while travelling.

The new ones may have faster processors, but they do not have the stellar features of the 9300cx.

I have a Solo 9300 that I bought off of ebay (barebone). I just had to add a cd-rom, battery, ac, and floppy drive (if I wanted one). It only cost me about $500 total. Nice 15" screen, celeron 450, 20 gig HD. In my opinion I think gateway makes good laptops.
