Gateway FX P7805u Laptop GPU Issues

I know I can't be the only one experiencing fps drops and heat issues with this this laptop's gpu. If anyone has any solutions, please post them. I tried undervolting my gpu, to no avail. It seems undervolting has worked for other people. I'm not sure if it has to do anything with what driver versions they are using.

i know this notebook very well. in my experiences you would have to tear down the notebook to get at the fans to clean them and apply better thermal paste, and hope thermals improve. if not, im afraid its probably the mainboard that needs replacing.

the mainboard in that notebook had a 60% DOA rate coming from the FACTORY. dont know if thats NV's 'bumpgate' affecting it, interesting that the GPU is soldered on the mainboard. i for one would have loved to see just a little more considerate thermal design by the design engineers, aside from the horrid failure rate.

Thanks for the reply. I was reading another thread where people were undervolting their 9800m GTS, and it was working for them. They didn't post things like their driver version. This laptop seems like a pain to take apart.

yes, it truly is a challenge, especially for those not experienced in notebooks.

sometimes, it was impossible for us to repair a FX notebook to where it was 100% functional, which is really laughable.
