Gateway FX Laptop Screen Replacement

I have a Gateway FX P-7805u ( with the 1400 X 1200 resolution screen ) that has some issues with the case being cracked and the fans are going out. I recently bought another FX P-7805u (with the 1400 x 900 resolution screen).

They both have the same identical video card installed.

Is it possible to swap the higher resolution screen onto the other laptop? If so, what all would need to be swapped? CPU, etc…

I would check with a laptop repair store about this.

Otherwise, you'll need to pull both computer lids apart & swap in the new screen to see if you can make the higher resolution screen work. My guess is that if the video cables are the same (ie, they both have identical part numbers), then it should be able to be made to work. If not then the swap will need to include the higher resolution screen along with its video cable. There's also a chance that you might have to update the BIOS, so record the BIOS version of the machine from which you are taking the higher resolution screen from.
