Gateway FlexATX Power Supply

Alright, here's the situation. I'm working on an old Gateway FlexATX system with a little 90w power supply in it. The fan that cooled both the power supply and the processor died, and the thing was run like this for a couple of months. Now it's stopped powering up altogether. My question is... can I just hook up a regular 300w ATX power supply to the system to run it temporarily, or did Gateway do what Dell did with some of their systems from around the same time period (2001) and use a modified power supply (therefore making a regular ATX power supply incompatible with the motherboard)?

Thank you.

Technically, yes, but at this time of year I bet I'd be on hold forever, and then I'd have to actually get someone on the phone who would know what I'm talking about or how to answer it.

Hmm...why don't you just put he power supply in there and try it out? If it fits it fits, if it doesn't it doesn't.

I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. There's a situation with some Dell systems where they made modifications to the motherboard and the power supply whereas if you were to switch out either the motherboard or power supply for a standard one, you'll fry the other. It's really stupid, and there's no physical difference in the connector.

Check the voltage from the 90W power supply and then from the 300W and see if they match up.

Just repaired one a little while ago like it. Test a regular ps to be sure it is a ps problem. Unplug the extra 2 wire lead connecter and leave it off. The best way to repair it if it is is just to get a cheapo case with ps and fans for $30.00 and move the components to it. Gateway bastardizes their cases and ps so others don't fit. They were known for ps problems.
