Gateway DX4840 CPU compatibility question

Hey guys, my younger brother has a 2010 Gateway DX4840-03C desktop. The motherboard is LGA 1156, and the PC came with a Clarkdale i5-650 installed.

For his birthday last year I upgraded the GPU and RAM, and this year I was thinking about replacing that dual-core Clarkdale i5 with a quad-core Lynnfield i7. However, I'm not sure how to go about confirming whether or not the OEM Motherboard and OEM BIOS would support the Lynnfield chip. Does anyone have any suggestions/further knowledge about this? Thanks in advance!

What you do is you google the gateway dx4840 series, all the dx4840 will have the same motherboard but they will have diffent cpus represented by the model number following the dx4840.

https://support.gateway.com/s/desktop/2010/gateway/dx/dx4840/DX4840sp2.shtml

Note it says intel core i3, i5, i7, etc

Google the model with dx4840 core i7 and we have seen gateway has made prebuilts with the core i7 860 (DX4840-003t) and core i7 870 (Gateway DX4840-006t) thus we know the motherboard and the bios should suppor these chips.

The answer to that be easy. Check eBay for an Overdrive. I wish that experiment didn't fail. A Sandy/Ivy Overdrive for LGA1366 would've been nice.
