Gateway 6400 W2K Runaway Process

Wanted to pass this on.

Problem: Very high CPU usage all the time.

Solution:
I've got the 6400 at <1% cpu usage YEA!!!!!
After playing with the bios settings, this is what worked for me...
<drum roll>
in the bios, go to the Power section
1) turn APCI Aware O/S to YES (this is the first item)
2) turn Power Management to Disabled (this is the second item)
all other options disappear when Power Management is disabled

works great!
BTW: I installed the VisionTek geforce2 MX400 ($54 AR) and I have a 3dmark score of 2424!

I do not know what the problem is now. The runaway process is back again. I guess I did not really fix it. I am unable to explain this behavior.

Any ideas?

Current lead on the solution:

I have access to a 6400 that has the 100% usage problem. It does it immediately and reliably. I talked with GWay and they know of the problem but not a solution. I tried alot of different things (many, many hours) and guess what... I swapped out the power supply (a separate 420W that I own) and BAM!!! no more problem. I put the original back in the original PS and the problem is back!!!
GWay sent me a replacement PS (same make/model and original) to use and the problem still exists with the replacement. They are now researching the PS solution.
I think the answer is clear. There were some 6400's shipped with faulty PS.
BTW: I am not faulting GWay. Other AT'ers and GWay both said they normally swap out the mainboard, cpu, and memory to solve the problem (a lot more than the cost of a PS). So I think they really are trying. Also GWay said swapping does not always work.
