Gateway 460xl 10-12 hours of battery???

hey group,

saw the specs for the gatewat 460xl do you really get 10 to 12 hours from the battery??
are there other laptops that exceptional battery life ?

my current laptop gets about 2 hours, 5 to 6 times that would be a temping investment

let me know your thoughts

Take a look here for some more detalis, but basically you put a 12-cell battery in the main bay (gives you 6-7 hours alone, minumum) and add an additional 6-cell in the hot-swap bay (another 4-5 hours alone). So yes, that kind of battery life is very realistic but will increase the weight of the laptop greatly.

It will increase the weight a bit. You won't notice it that much. A 6 cell hot swap battery does have a bit more heft than a optical drive. If this makes the notebook too heavy for you perhaps you should also invest in a gym membership (lol sorry always say this when people bitch about the weight of lappies). But yes I've seen lappies using a secondary battery get this type of batt life. I think the sony TR series with an extended (perhaps 9 cell) battery gets something to the effect of 8hrs. IBM T42s with their extended batteries also get a decent amount of life (6-7hrs).
