Gateway 450sx4 memory upgrade?

I have a Gateway 450sx4 laptop and according to Gateway the max memory is 512mb (2 slots of 256mb). I currently have it maxed out and also have the most current BIOS loaded. The laptop has the Intel 845MZ chipset, so shouldn't it actually be able to handle more memory than 512mb? Is there any possible way this laptop could be flashed with a different BIOS that would allow more memory? Any help or opinions would be appreciated!

The bios isn't the limiting factor here, the mobile version of the 845 chipset is. More specificly its the memory controler chip that is paired with the 845 chip set. In this case its the Intel® 82845 MCH. Page 9 on the PDF linked below shows you the specifications of the chip. Sorry to say but the max is 512mb and there isn't anything you can do to change it.

He already has 512Mb or total RAM. No point in upgradeing to a single 512Mb DIMM since the system can't use more then 512Mb do to the chipset limitation.
