Gateway 24" LCD

QueBert

Lifer
can't find much specs on the new one, I had the old one, as far as LCD's go I thought it was okay. Looks like the new one has a glossy coat, and 92% color gammut, not sure what 92% relates to next to the old model. I liked how my screen could be rotated 90 degrees. Sort of a gimmick that I didn't use much but it was cool the few times I did use it.

Anyone used both models? the new one is quite a bit cheaper. My CRT is dying and I guess I should bite the bullet and settle for a worse overall picture for the smaller size.

The older gateway 2485 is a great display, it looks great, has a faroujda upscaler for analogue sources and has never given me an issue. The new model is a TN and that alone would make me not buy it. Sure its glossy but I hate glossy displays anyways. The funny thing is when you go to a box store like BB glossy panels always look great in that horrible unnatural light those fluorescent lights give off. At the local BB they have a HP 24 TN panel next to a Westy 24 and a LG 24. The HP looks good compared to those somehow.

I don't care about TN vs whatever panel, I sold my old Gateway because the picture couldn't touch my good ole CRT. It had the same panel the uber 24"'s do. I don't see much difference between a TN and any panel unless I'm looking at it from a crazy angle. My GF has a Westinghouse 22", it's TN and possibly the best looking 22 I've seen. I'm not a huge fan of glossy though it gives images an artifical look I don't like. Maybe I'll go back to Craigslist and hope to find another 22" CRT or even better yet a 23" widescreen CRT! 😀

thanks for the reply man.
