I don't have any pics yet, but I'll take some soon. I've only had it for a few hours, but let me tell you, it's amazing!

I also have the 21" & what an upgrade this is. For those of you thinking about a 24" monitor, but don't have much information or reviews on the Gateway, I can tell you, I'm impressed.

I looked at the Gateway 22" & there's no comparison at all. I believe the 22" has a 700:1 contrast ratio, whereas the 24" is 1000:1. That makes all the difference in the world on this beast.

I want to add that my biggest concern after looking at the 22" was the brightness & contrast. Let me tell you, this thing is BRIGHT! I mean, wow, super bright!

Anyway, I've read a lot of great things about the 3rd generation of the 24" Dell & just thought that some of you may be interested in considering other options.

I actually came very close to buying the FPD2485W myself, but ended up going with the BenQ FP241W instead... it was in fact my second choice & I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Btw I also looked at a bunch on the 22 inch TN panels & I agree with you that they simply don't stack up in terms of image quality & color reproduction.

Hey,

I got to ask, only because I was or am ready to buy me one of those 2185w's from somewhere, I saw them side by side at the bestbuy (all 3, the 21, 22 & 24) and there is no way I shelling out over $600 for a monitor, I just can not justify that with other things I do so much like to do. But why you think the 24 is soooo much better, just size?

or do ya think maybe, the 21 is getting old and showing (for lack of better term, wear?) is the 21 maybe "burning up" or what have you, have you had it a long time? arent the 24 & 21 dang near same things just size? IT was obvious to me that the 22 was different panel altogether...

in case I was not clear about what I am asking you about, I mean my 17 inch monitor that was perfectly fine even 2 years ago is just getting slow at coming on, stuff like that that makes me think it is near dead (washed out colors and stuff too)... ya know old.

I need the realestate on my desk and I primarily game and do some spread-sheetin' (think widescreen would be handy as heck)

give me any thoughts about that 2185??

tia.

I would love to have the 24 dont get me wrong.

I actually started out looking an the Gateway 2185W myself & I thought it had a slightly better picture then the 2485W with more accurate color reproduction & less ghosting... also DVD video looked better on the 21 as well, darker blacks especially.

The BenQ FP241W I ultimately went with is a good bit better then both of them were though & I'm very pleased with my choice... the most useful source of information I was able to find about these moniters was in the display section of Hard-Forums over at Hardocp... lots of people who have seen & used the exact models you are deciding between.

id say those two and the dell 2407, and really between the three it depends on what your doing with it. (meaning whether or not your using it for a TV, game console display, PC display, etc).

I really wanted to pick up the Dell 2407 but was kinda pissed at the lack of proper Xbox/HD support, crappy component inputs and other little quirks. If I'm going to drop 7 bills, it should be perfect. The Gateway here apparently works perfectly with the 360 in 1080p which is awesome... unfortunately I can't find the damn thing in Canada. Going to wait for Dell's next offerings.

I just picked one up yesterday and I am VERY pleased with the over quality. The clarity and color is phenominal for such a huge monitor. I don't notice any ghosting at all playing FPS.

Looked at one at Bloated Buy and when it was on the MSN home page there was noticeable color gradient banding on the bluish background to the website. I didn't mess around with the OSD very much though, so it could have been just the setting, but even the review Anandtech did claimed that it has that issue.

Not a bad looking monitor really, but from what I've read the 2407 seems to be the better buy. Still, glad you're happy with it.

Just waiting for a good sale now, but I've decided on the Dell 2407 over the others mainly due to roughly similar performance among the 3 main 24" panels (i.e. Dell, Benq and Gateway). That and Dell seems to have better support and sales. Can't say much about inputs since I'll probably only ever use one DVI connection. Wonder how the new LG and Samsung panels will be...

Xbox/HD support seems to be better with the revision 04 of the Dell 2407. Can't personally confirm.
