Was thinking about this eariler...if companies begin refining more alternative fuels = less refining of traditional gasoline = less supply = and combined with still high demand = higher prices. We need more refining capacity before we start refining alternatives, yes?

This shows he is under some kind of pressure although he is FOS about "every little drop helps" because the Oil Tanks are at 8 Year highs.

Notice they said "possibly dampen prices at the pump".

Wow, Gas dropped a whole 8 cents immediately upon Bush's remarks.

4-25-2006 Bush Eases Environmental Rules on Gasoline and Halts Oil Reserve Purchases Until fall

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday ordered a temporary suspension of environmental rules for gasoline, making it easier for refiners to meet demand and possibly dampen prices at the pump.

He also halted for the summer the purchase of crude oil for the government's emergency reserve.

The moves came as political pressure intensified on Bush to do something about gasoline prices that are expected to stay high throughout the summer.

Bush said the nation's strategic petroleum reserve had enough fuel to guard against any major supply disruption over the next few months.

"So, by deferring deposits until the fall, we'll leave a little more oil on the market. Every little bit helps," he said.

Wholesale gasoline futures prices for June delivery dropped 8 cents a gallon to $2.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange immediately upon Bush's remarks.

Bush said high energy prices are disturbing.

OK . . . Bush is a friggin' idiot.

1) Stop filling the SPR with $70+ a barrel crude . . . no shyte, Sherlock!
2) Deferring deposits will leave more crude on the market, every little bit helps . . . hmm how about telling people to drive less and don't buy American POS SUVs?
3) Prices reflect our addiction to oil . . . oh really?
4) Congress should apply hybrid vehicle tax credit to everyone instead of having caps . . . uhh . . . wasn't that your idea (or industry lobbyists) . . . to protect domestic automakers against Toyota and Honda?
5) These energy companies don't need unnecessary tax breaks . . . WHOA! Bush is a liberal, tax loving fanatic that hates America and profits.

Naturally Bush put in a plug for opening ANWR . . . but by the time we get any oil . . . shouldn't we be tooling around in those hydrogen cars he's promised?

FIXED! :D

Hell, Elizabeth Dole just yesterday said those evul terrist Democrats are just using high gas prices as an excuse to complain about an exploding economy (best since the days of King Arthur)

I didn't know gas hit $9 gal in Atlanta.

4-25-2006 $9 Gallon gas prices propel a new 'moped madness'

Atlanta - The moped and its bigger, flashier cousin, the scooter, are swarming out of Jimmy Carter's America and into George W. Bush's republic - a movement propelled by soaring gasoline prices surpassing those of the late 1970s and by legions of Americans who take seriously the call for oil independence.

Scooter dealer Bill Gornto knew he was onto something after hurricane Katrina, when some gas pumps around Atlanta read $9 a gallon and people came in "looking like zombies."

Tennessee joins Georgia shutting down schools to save fuel costs.

5-1-2006 Fuel Costs Prompt School Closings in Tenn

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The high price of diesel fuel for school buses meant children in one Tennessee school system got a holiday Monday ? their second in a row.

School Board Chairman Harold McCawley said the two-day closing was justified.

"Rhea County is a long county, 34 miles from end to end," McCawley said. "It's just a huge savings of fuel."

Rhea County Finance Director Brad Harris said county schools spent $14,000 on fuel in March, compared to $7,800 in March 2005. He said fiscal year to-date-spending was up from $68,000 to $102,500.

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue asked his state's public schools to close for two days in September to conserve fuel when Hurricane Rita threatened to shut down refineries. Perdue has "no regrets," spokeswoman Heather Hedrick said Friday.
===========================================
New Act "Every child left behind" thanks to Bush and his Oil buddies.

Think about it . . . it's Georgia and Tennessee . . . it's not like public education is actually going to do anything for these kids. These people still cling to agricultural calendars for schools (even though migrants are doing much of the work) and have curricula concerned about the Bible and other random BS.

someone asked but unless it has changed

there is a 18.4 cent federal tax per gallon sold. States can tack on some if they wish.

california as of 2002 tacks on another 32 cents.

Oil futures have been on a sharp down-swing since last week, when the U.S. government showed an increase in U.S. refining and gasoline supplies.

Gee, all of a sudden there is no problem producing gasoline.

Hmmmmmmmmm

I wonder if it has anything to do with the upcoming novembers... hmm....

Really now of a sudden there isn't a problem with the existing Refineries like the righties have been whining about.

Well this way they wouldn't have to answer to their oil baron bosses. Typical, and very predictable.
1) Gas prices soar uncontrollably for no apparent reason
2) Exxon CEO gets ~400 Mil bonus
3) Consumers know they are being gouged
4) Consumers know that the oil companies have politicos in their collective pockets.
5) Repugs try to make the consumers whores by offering 100.00 for this 'inconvenience'
6) Consumers laugh and choke on the 100.00 whore pay.
7) Alternative fuels start to be openly and actively discussed
8) 100.00 idea isn't worth .01 Repugs back away from it.
9) dumbya will not do anything to make the oil companies answer for the gouging
10) suggests raping the earth more by loosening up the EPA regulations for refineries
11) Consumers now paying well over 3.00 a gallon and more likely closer to 4.
12) More lip service on how alternative fuels should be the mainstay
13) oil companies keep their ears to the ground and hear the approval for alternative fuels
14) alternative fuel talks thin out
15) dumbya stilll refuses to repeal tax breaks for big oil
16) dumbya approval rating sinking lower than an armadillo's belly
17) gop realizes that november is an election, a big one. Lose the house kinda election
18) big oil makes politicos very aware of the upcoming elections
19) consumers have had enough, run out of gas on purpose to get free gallon
20) crude prices stabilize, gas starts to drop a little
21) dumbya winks at dead-eye who winks and nods at exxon.
22) november 2006, dumbya and dead-eye looking at a democratic majority.
23) let the fun begin.

It was $2.68 on the way into work. I'll have to check on my way home.

Besides, if we invaded Iran, it would be like $10+ a gallon. Exxon's CEO just needed a new cruise ship or something.
