My car ran over a piece of metal rod and hit my gas tank. Punctured my gas tank and gas started gushing out. I jb weld it and it lasted 1 week. Started leaking again. Yesterday I took it to a shop that would weld the tank. They tig weld it and now the leak is gone however, when I touch the area that was welded i can feel gas sweating. Not much but very small amount. Should I take it back to the shop or find a patch for it.?

the weld is not smooth. i guess you can say it is leaking but not dripping leak. You don't see a drop but when you touch the weld it is sort of wet.

There is probably micro-porosity or a very fine crack in the weld. When welding any fuel container out of steel I usually had to redo welds one or two times to get rid of all of those tiny leaks.

You could bring it back to them for a re-weld.

You could also drain it, clean it with acetone, and try sealing it with epoxy.

what year make and model?

How much is a new one? Some are pretty cheap and make make it better just to put a new one on and be done with it.

i had the option of replacing the tank but I opt out and used the cheaper route by welding it. so now i have to use what i have .

any suggestion on an epoxy?

Something by 3M with a real spec sheet that has solvent resistance. DP420 is my general choice favorite, but I can borrow the applicator guns from work, so it's cheap for me. If you semi-routinely epoxy things it'd be a great investment to get the DP gun and tips. It automatically mixes the epoxy as you squeeze it out. Check out McMaster-Carr.
