No big deal.
Seriously, until they hit $3.00 per gallon I think everyone needs to quit crying. Gas has been uber-cheap for years and now it's gone up to relatively cheap. Get over it.

I would like to see $5 for various enviromental reasons but mainly to get the public to tell thier elected reps to stop stonewalling electrics. It does'nt take a genious to understand generating power at one source like a nuclear power plant is much more effecient than having millions of cars make thier power with an ineffcient gasoline engine.

First off to people saying that gas is expensive in their country, yeah well you are used to it we are not. I really dont see th prices coming down anytime soon, and for that matter i dont see anyone in our government really doing anything about it, and im talking about the politicians here in california.

To those people that say ride a bike, move etc. I want to see you guys up and sell your house due to a rise in gas prices, or ride a bike 40 miles each way, no there is no public transportation to get me to work that far.

Basically we will suffer through this like any other crisis, but it bugs the hell out of me that peopel with short commutes to work talk out of their colective a$$es and give some stupid suggestions.

gas prices have doubled, have not they? which affects every industry

the cost of manufacturing everything has gone up thus too

for airlines alone, - the one penny increase in the gas price per gallon means 72 mil a year extra, I believe

and so on

paying more at the pump quickly leads to paying more at the grocery store and every other place too, with no guranteed adequate increase in one's salary

Why should it be "guaranteed"? This is gasoline we're talking about here, not oxygen. The price is going to fluctuate. If anything, all the stuff you pointed out (although I'm a little dubious regarding that airline figure) indicates that the US is overly dependent on oil. It's going to run out sooner or later, if it takes the "tough love" of high gas prices to get us collectively moving in the right direction, then so be it.

You try paying £0.79 per litre, that's over £4 per gallon :|

Until you get anywhere near this, quit your whining you gas guzzling Americans :disgust:

Confused

0.79 * 3.785 = 2.99 < 4

Right now we're paying the equivalent of $2.32 US / gal

UK gallon != US gallon

0.79 * 4.54 = 3.58

Nearly £4 per gallon here.....I got it a little off, heard my mother mention £4 per gallon.

Still, £3 ($4.71) per US gallon, is a lot more than you are paying, so my original offer of quit whining still stands :p

Confused
silverpig is from Vancouver, B.C. I'm pretty sure he was just quoting prices from his neck of the woods.

Rob

The second part was yeah, but the first part I was talking about his prices. Sure, that's 3.58/ UK gallon, but I'm going to assume that when the prices are listed at your "petrol" (heh) stations that they give you the price in terms of litres correct? If that's the case and you want to talk about price per gallon, then you should convert it to US gallons as there is no real point in converting it to UK gallons as the price isn't given in UK gallons anywhere. Gas in the US however is given in US gallons.

All that aside though, you guys do get screwed pretty good...

and i drive a 5 generation nissan Maxima..... not a truck or SUV

Maxima takes premium gas though correct?

It is recommended. That said, I have used standard on occasion and not noticed any loss in performance or mileage.

Whats the likelihood of the automotive industry producing cars that use alternate fuel sources? Is that just a pipe dream or a real possibility?

Can't certain types of waste material be used for fuel? If so that would solve 2 problems at once.

Why should I be happy when the price is less than $4 per gallon? Just because Europe puts a $2 per gallon tax on gas doesn't mean we should tax gas $2 per gallon too. :|

Yes, but gas prices are still on the rise. CNN said it takes gas prices longer to fall than they rise. Something about making profit after wholesale prices drop.

You have got to be kidding me!
I don't expect any 'relief' whatsoever: Once something has been taken, gas prices in this case, it is seldom given back.

That's not true. It wasn't that long ago that gas prices were up around 2$/gallon in some places, and they came back down nicely.. until now.

Surprisingly few people in the oil industry, especially in Texas and Oklahome, are complaining of high fuel costs. Go figure. :)

It's just plain ridiculous IMO. There is no reason for the higher prices. We all will buy it, as we have to, but I think more people will use public transportation where available.
