I prefer my gas pedal...

  • Hanging

  • Floor Mounted

  • Either way is fine with me

  • In my right hand

The other day I took my G35 coupe in for service and was given a G37 sedan loaner. It was better in almost every way that matters to me except for one: the gas pedal was mounted at the floor unlike the hanging pedal in my coupe.

Its probably not proper form but in my car I usually drive with my toes on the bottom third of the pedal and my heel on the floor. In the sedan I had to slide my heel up to the pedal and use my whole foot. It drove me nuts, I just couldn't get use to it. Just curious as to what the rest of you think about pedal placement.

Never driven a floor mounted gas pedal car, but my toes are usually halfway up the gas pedal on any car.

hanging.

who drives with their toes on the bottom of the pedal? with my heel on the floor between the gas and brake , my foot generally covers the whole pedal.

Floor, it's the natural movement of your ankle so you can press the pedal with your whole foot instead of just your toes.

Never tried a G37, but it's perfect in my GTI.

Probably don't have to worry about the floor mat sliding under the pedal. It seems that the more sporty cars have the pedal mounted to the floor.

Well as it turns out, not me. I went and checked and from my normal foot position my big toe is halfway up the pedal and the bottom the pedal is dead center under the ball of my foot.

I know that Ferrari does it and I could have sworn that Acura has it on some models like the TL.

Interestingly this seems to hold true except for the 599 line, including the Fxx version. They all have hanging pedals.

Best as I can tell from online images:
Porsche - All floor mounted
Aston Martin - All hangers
Lamborghini - All floor mounted

To me top mounted feels better than the floor mounted Logitech pedals I have for my computer. You move your foot in its natural arc and it slides along the pedal surface. With bottom mounted, the arcs are too close and my heel gets pulled forward

Hmm. I can't say I've ever cared enough to really notice.

Doesnt it just make you miss the old school Caddy pedals that would show behind a size 13? Cant find a decent pic but those things were enormous floor mounted beasts.

Really? I like the G37 interior a LOT more than the G35s, but I really like driving the G35 coupes over the G37 coupes. The G35 was such a great looking car too, the G37 is a little fugly IMHO. When I bought my Z in 2009 I would have a bought a G35 instead if they had still offered it. I drove the G37 and the Z and liked the Z way better.
