I'm changing out my old thermostat for a new one. The connection is in a box in the back of the oven, you get to it by unscrewing a large panel. So the block connectors didn't match so I needed to cut and splice the connection, using plastic crimp connectors. So most websites online say to use ceramic wire nuts, but behind the oven, it looks like there's a lot of plastic connectors. What do you think, is this safe?

In the pic, look for a couple of clear crimps that I added to a pair of purple wires.

My guess would be that it isn't a problem, but that's a guess. Why didn't you just buy the correct part?

Off topic: You also need a new floor.

The are numerous plastic connectors nearby in this electrical box, so my "guess" was that it's alright too. Why do we still just guess at this though?

This was the correct part but the plastic connectors just didn't line up, the one on the purple wires has a notch that the new thermostat probe did not.

Also, this floor is amazing, the charm of 1968. Probably so well preserved due to the asbestos impregnation in this particular vinyl sheet product.

Off topic, here's another view. Look at how well the seam blends.

Asbestos was the happening stuff back in the day. Those floors would last forever, though in a lot of cases that wasn't such a good thing.

On the connectors, I believe wire nuts have a better temperature rating than the wire insulation. You might be able to read it on one of the wires. Stormkrow or Humpy would be able to verify that, they know electrical better than I do.
