Gas mileage for a 20' truck rental?

Anyone have an estimate on how much gas a 20' truck from Penske or Uhaul sucks up? I am thinking around 6-8 mpg.

Edit: I might be towing a car behind it also.

Thats about right. That size truck might get 10-12 without a load.

Avoid UHaul... just my opinion. Lots of friends/family, as myself, have had bad experiences with their poorly maintained fleet.

Can't say any of the others are better/worse, but, I'd certainly look into that.

maybe interesting...

It's been a while but the last time I rented one (I think it was 24 foot, big V-8 gas) I started out running 75 or 80 mph and got 4 to 5 mpg. I slowed down and got 7 or 8.

Thanks. I am going to rent from Penske because I have had good experiences with them before. I have just never rented such a big truck.

I moved 2000 miles in a 20' penske truck. Avg mpg was around 6-7, going no faster than 65. This was really loaded, and towing a double axle trailer hualing my car, going from CO to NY. So, YMMV. I wouldn't count on better than 8 though.

This was 2 yrs ago. The truck was much nicer by far than the Uhauls we looked at. Truck was almost new, Vortec V8, etc. Had one prob however, tires on trailer were nearly bald, and one blew around St. Louis. Penske relatively quickly got someone out to fix it, and gave us a discount when we turned the truck in.

Hope this helps G/L

PS. Inspect those tires before you go!!!!
