Just a quick question ... any one know of a chemical/mechanical additive that ACTUALLY improves your gas mileage? I'm gettin really irritated with my Jetta VR6's consistent 17 mpg (I do a LOT of short trips but even on long distance trips it rarely goes up above 20 mpg).

sell the v6,
if you like VW get a turbo diesel {SDI?}
additives do not work in long term real world..
all cost more than you will save in fuel mileage

No fuel additive will significantly improve gas mileage. You will do much better to keep a close eye on tire pressure and wheel alignment, and follow VW's maintenance schedule for oil changes and air filter changes, etc. You may consider adding a couple of PSI air pressure to the tires over the spec listed in the owners' manual, as that will reduce rolling resistance and improve mileage. If you add too much air, however, you can accelerate tire wear, so don't go overboard there.
