Because the govt. owns the oil company and refineries. They make cheap gas for their people and sell the rest to foreign contries to make a profit.

Look at the prices in main land China. If there is such a demand there that the world demand for oil is going up and causing our gas prices to raise, WTF are the Chines only paying $1.50? Fscking communists.

the government is subsidizing it there, whereas our government is taxing the hell out of it (though not as much as the western european governments)
