I concur. The glowing to me means the thermocouple is working, there is just no fuel to light because the solenoid(s) is/are not working properly

Would the solenoid work right the first firing though? Then not afterwards?

I had a similar problem...In my case, the solenoids would only work when cold, so the flame would come on at first, but then fail on subsequent heating cycles, so be sure to observe more than just the first ignition when the dryer is turned on.

Possibly. Oops, too slow.

Read my above post again, it sounds like I completely nailed your problem on the first try. :)

Actually I was thinking the same thing -- it seems almost perfectly identical to your post. :)

I award you +2 Internet Points

Be leery of black out dates!

Since you're now the expert on the topic, these look right to you?

Maytag Dyer Model LD0412

Are you sure that model number is right? I'm finding pretty much no references to it on the Internet, which is very unusual. According to Maytag the model should be in one of these places:

1. On the upper left of the cabinet (in the back)
2. Inside on the back frame (door open)
3. Inside the door
4. Behind the access panel (gas dryers only)

That is exactly how they go bad. Run the first time and then nothing.

I imagine the heat in the dryer box from running the first time degrades their electromagnetic properties.

Don't sweat the model number. You walk into an appliance parts place with those solenoids in your hand and the guy behind the counter won't even glance at them or ask you for your brand of dryer, he'll walk right to the bin and bring you some new ones. They are universal.

Yeah I know.

Local shop lists them for $33... guess that's the price I pay for convienience versus waiting a week to get them in the mail.

Ah, that makes more sense, that's LDG412, not LD0412. Unfortunately, based on my research, there are 2 different possible solenoid styles in that model - one with wire leads, and one without, so you need to get in there and see what you have. You probably need one of these two depending on which style you have:

The second one is the same thing in my dryer - hope for that because it's cheaper and easier to deal with.

Since your working on it I would throw a new thermal fuse in to things on cost a couple bucks. what your describing sounds just like a thermal fuse going bad.

G? No shit? I looked it over and over. I swear it was a O. It's smashed pretty good. Ah well.

I think as previously outlined, I'm just going to disconnect them and go to the local parts store and say "I need these".

But FWIW, I have the 2nd ones. No wire leads. Just clips.

I'll pay the premium for buying locally as I need some clean clothes!
