Gas $6.68/Gal in Norway - Don't complain...

Analog

Lifer
Statoil, Shell and Esso have now raised their recommended gasoline prices to around NOK 11.30 per liter (USD 6.68 per gallon).

Soaring oil prices are now hitting Norwegian motorists at the gas pump, and things could easily get worse.

"We are at NOK 11.32 per liter. This is an all time high for Shell in Norway," Shell information chief Jacob Olsbø told newspaper Finansavisen.

Statoil raised its liter price on gasoline to NOK 11.28 in July and Esso followed suit this Monday, pricing its Leadfree 95 at NOK 11.33 per liter.

One comfort for Norwegian motorists is that a relatively weak dollar has kept gas prices from rising even more.

Several Norwegian stations are helping keep local customers a bit happier by having price wars, with prices there still under NOK 10 per liter (USD 5.90 per gallon).

They use public transportation.

If you guys ever get a chance to go to Singapore, you would see how amazing it can be. They have an amazing MRT with 3 lines that will take you just about anywhere you need to go.

Nice for them, i bet they actually have mass transit where they live. I dont have any type of public transportation in my area.

you guys are idiots...thats how they get taxed in europe. we have higher taxes on other things, but its all made to tax the rich. only the rich or semi wealthy people can drive over there. everyone else uses public transportation. my sisters boyfriend just moved here from scotland and thats exactly what he said.

You should consider it as "how much would it cost to drive across the country" instead.

Norweigens have not only a more extensive mass transit, which is accessible through most of the country, but many of them also don't depend on driving more than a 20-30 miles a day... whereas it's not uncommon for Americans to drive 40-100 just to go to work.

Bingo, plus the cars that they have in europe usually have small displacement engines or are diesels that burn about a 1/4 of gas that suv's over hear burn.

How many times are we going to have the same discussion over gas prices in Europe vs gas prices in the US?
