This is not like the Olympics, or the World Cup of soccer, where it is the "big event" for those sports. In baseball, you play to win the World Series. That is why you sign a contract, that is why you play MLB. In soccer, the world cup is IT. That's why you play. Your Premiership team(or whatever team) comes 2nd. Baseball, football, basketball is not like that. Hockey is to some degree, the world cup and olympics are a pretty big deal in hockey, but still, the Stanley cup is the big prize, for MOSt players.

Nobody cares about this silly made up PR event. It'a a dog and pony show that Selig concocted to get ratings.

With thousands of minor league players busting their asses off trying to take your place? It's easy to say they get paid millions to play a childs game, but there isn't any child in the world that can condition themselves year round to perform at the level that these guys do. They are the best of the best for a reason.

the hardest thing they do is a light jog out to there position to play. that does not sound like hard conditioning to me ;)

4 words: Sheffield is a POS. First we have to hear him btch about wanting more $$$ (and HE was the one that negotiated his own deal, he doesn't have an agent) at the beginning of the season until Steinbrenner shut him up. Then he publically states that if he's traded, he won't play hard for whatever team he goes to. Before this season he lied about taking steroids, he "didn't know" the Clear was an anabolic, topical steroid. Right Gary.

He's a childlike, whining, unprofessional POS. Newsflash Gary, if you get hurt, you'll still get your money. This isn't football, his contract is gauranteed. Honestly, I wouldn't want this POS representing our country anyhow. Give someone who wants to be there a chance, someone who didn't use roids to get to where he's at. I love it when he opens his mouth, he makes himself look even more stupid.

IF baseball doesn't get reinstated back to the Olympics, then you're wrong with your analogy that it's a "dog and pony show". This will be the World Cup of baseball for all international players, this will be IT. For Sheffield not to represent his country in the greatest sport on the planet is a big slap in the face to Americans. Karma's a btch though, as I'm sure Gary has found out by watching Sportscenter. ;)

I knew he was a class act the first time I saw his initials on his two front teeth. Atleast he had enough since to have that removed.
