Just a shame a guy like Johnson can not win or even put a good fight. While 43% seems a little drastic it is better than the status quo of spend spend spend. I would be in favor of cutting the military budget 5% a year for 8 years. That would give them plenty of time to adjust and get rid of waste in the system. He is completely right why are we footing the bill to defend south korea and japan. Either they pay us or we leave and they do it themselves. Also shut down 75% of the bases over seas just a waste of money. If those countrys want us there pay us then.

Most of the army should be disbanded. We need naval power and strategic air and nuclear weapons to defend ourselves.

This is definitely a concern. A portion of any drastic cuts would have to be re-allocated to cushion the "creative destruction."

There has to be a lot of thought given to restructuring the military, and of course the government fails miserably at changing thing. Look at the institutionalized economic slavery known as Medicaid, a multigenerational trap and no one will touch that.

There's not much the government can't screw up.

Hell, I would be all for the military cut IF they completely eliminate the EIC each year. But all the military cut would bring another problem... massive unemployment.

Not if done correctly, though I don't have much faith in that. Just from my short time spent in the military, I saw incredible waste, so much shit bought just because they had the money to buy it in the budget, whether they needed it or not. Seriously, the mess hall on one of the FOB's in Iraq was bigger than any I have seen stateside, ran 24 hours a day, and was all civilian run.

That is a falsity. Currently soldiers bank cash money and get all expenses paid for. Bring them and the millionaire contractors home so they can go live the American dream, aka spend happy consumers and start small businesses, which will spark the economy and create jobs.

I mean fuck a locksmith makes like $200k and IT helpdesk people make $300k in Iraq/Afghanistan. Bring those fuckers home.

Where do you get those salaries from? I know quite a few contractors over there, and they don't make anything close to that.
