The g/f has had an i2 for a couple weeks now, & absolutely loves it. Unfortunately she's already finding the 128 MB MicroSD card it shipped with to be way too small. I'm going to order her a larger card, I'm debating what size to get.

1 GB cards are available now (and cheap, at $52). 2 GB cards should be available shortly.

So my question for those with larger cards:

How big is your card and how many states (and what states) can you fit on it? Is it optimistic to hope that 2 GB would be enough for the entire lower 48? That alone makes the 2 GB very appealing...

[EDIT]Actually if you have one of these you could open the loading software & just add all 48 & see what happens... I'm primarily concerned with the eastern half of the US, so if it won't all fit then how far west can you get? I would do it myself but I'm on the road & don't have access to my PC.[/EDIT]

I though the I2 used Transflash not Mini SD? Do they make 1gb and 2gb transflash cards?

Well TransFlash got renamed to something SD... Now that you mention it I think it's MicroSD, not MiniSD... So 2 GB may not even be available (which makes my debate really easy). I know they do have 1 GB MicroSD though.

Too bad Amazon doesn't have them.

512mb of MICRO/Transflash is the largest available at the moment. Like you said, 1G sticks are due out soon.

In case anyone cares I got the 1 GB card today & loaded all of the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico with about 150 megs to spare.

So 1 GB is plenty if anyone is wondering.

I heard some Target stores have the Garmin i3 on clearance for $149.

Of course all the Portland area stores are probably cleaned out by now :(

The StreetPilot i2/i3 takes MicroSD/Transflash memory, not MiniSD.

I upgraded mine with a 512 MB card, and I can now fit about half of the entire US map on there. If I remember right, I now have everything East of the Mississippi on mine. I recently took a road trip from Connecticut to Memphis, Tennessee without changing or reprogramming my GPS once, which was pretty bitchin :)

After upgrading it, though, I noticed that the GPS now takes a lot longer to program street addresses. I guess that kinda makes sense, considering it now has a 4 times larger database of street addresses to search. That said, I'd hate to see how long it takes with 2GB :(

Best of all, I was able to use the old 128 MB Transflash card in my Motorola E815.
