Garbage disposal vs Trash

Leros

Lifer
Which is worse for the environment, throwing food down the garbage disposal or throwing it in the trash?

I'd guess trash is worse because it decomposes, but with a bunch of plastics / metals in an area thats unusable for anything else. At least in the disposal it gets broken up and mixed with water and bacteria.

I'm guessing trash since that just gets put into a landfill while the garbage disposal goes through sewage treatment

In addition to being ground up so it is smaller particles, which are easier to break down then the entire thing that goes in the garbage.
