I need to get a new garbage disposal for my kitchen. Notthing impressive since I'm not living in the house that long. Which brand is best.

Kenmore= seems to be the cheapest as they sell 1/2 to 3/4hp models on ebay in the 50 to 70 dollar range.

in sink erator = the garbage disposal already in my kitchen that's making knocking noises. more expensive but what the difference?

why do you care if you are moving? hell just buy a cheap magic chef one and be done with it.

Buy one exactly like the one that's in there. That way, you don't have to mess with it if the new one mounts differently or the drain is in a different location.
Just, unplug the old one.
Remove the drain line.
Twist to remove.
Reverse the process for installation.

I'll be moving in the next 5 years or so. But then again we are not dead set. I may keep the house and rent it out to people. I want something good but not too good.

I just replaced ours over the summer with an InSinkErator Evolution model. It is much larger than the one it replaced and it is also much quieter. You turn it on and barely hear it. The difference between it and the cheaper builder special that was in there is night and day.

Hookup was easy. This is the model I bought for my home.

I heard the evolution was a really good one and the price shows (around 300). But I was reading somewhere it's the same motor and everything it just uses a special grinder basket and more insualtion. The ordinary in-sink-erators just have a plastic insulation.

I paid $200 for mine and I bought it from Lowes. Well worth the money when you consider a cheap model will cost at least $60.

I went with Kitchen-Aid because because at the time they had their disposals go in different directions every time you turned them on, so clearing a jam up usually meant turning it on-off-on...

This was 10 years ago, though.

Take the current one apart to see if it's a simple fix. You may just need to replace the blades. Lowes and Home Depot both carry spare parts for garbage disposals.

Ours was 13 years old, it stunk, it was corroded in parts and was noisy as hell. I threw it in the trash and bought a new one.

Good rule of thumb for garbage disposals...and underwear.

Wow, that looks nice. The previous owners of my place left a bottom of the line insinkerator that I just got around to putting in. It's pretty loud and crappy.

We had an InSinkErator in our house for 11 years that finally broke. We just replaced it with the same exact model. It was pretty easy to switch them. We were able to reuse the top part( mounted to the sink) so we didn't even have to break out the putty, which saved us even more time. It was only $69 at Lowes. Pretty good deal for 11 years of operation.
