Hello, don't make my way round these parts very often, if at all.

Anyway, my friend drives, among other cars, a 2005 Kia Sedona. Mainly used for the family trips and such. Anyway, the front breaks are shot and he suspects are eating into the rotors.

New pads and rotors have already been purchased. Normally this is a job he could do himself but this is his first foray into foreign build automobiles. The electronics on the early gen Kia's are insane, but that is a whole other story.

The dealership laughed at him when he asked to purchase a service manual, saying that even if they could sell it to him, it would cost $300.00. Of course he told them to f-off.

So like any good friend would do I looked online and found the link below. No doubt a .pdf version for a nominal fee, which is fine. But does anyone know where one might obtain a free copy of this manual? As I said, Kia laughed at him when he inquired into buying one, and Hayes doesn't make one and time is of the essence.

Please help a great friend of a garage noob! Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

Service manual for a front disk brake repair?

Maybe I should have been clearer. I would certainly need one, my Dad grew up working for Delco/Remy before they went tits up in the late 70's in our area, and ever since then shied his sons away from automotive endeavors.

There are a host of problems, especially electrical, that he wants to tackle with the break job. For example, the automatic doors locks simply go up and down every second or two like they are possessed.

Bottom line, he told me he is working on this today, and I know he has been pulling his hair out trying to find a service manual, so I thought it would be cool to show up with one, that's all.

His career is refurbishing yachts and redoing interiors of them, much of the work is carpentry. His automotive experience comes from awhile ago, but he does think he can handle it.

Regardless, any pointers to a 2005 Kia Sedona Service Manual would be greatly appreciated.

Please??

$300 sounds correct for a factory service manual. You're lucky they even have them as a book for purchase. If you want GM manuals you have to buy access to an online source and download everything piece by piece.

Thanks for the help, the youtube vids and his knowledge should suffice.

HOWEVER, if anyone has a link to a full copy manual, there are all sorts of shitilly designed electrical stuff he wants to look at.

Oh, my bad. I never would have thought a service manual for a product one owns is copyrighted and thus, able to charge a sizable fee.

Again, thanks to all for the assist.

I bet you can find the FSM on one of the KIA forums. Every car forum I've every been on has links to a FSM scans somewhere.

Really? You never thought that something which took the factory hundreds of hours to put together and costs them money to publish would be subject to copyright?

Factory service manuals are always copyrighted.

More to the point, try contacting Kia directly. The company does not own the dealerships; dealers are simply independent companies that have contracts with Kia to sell Kia cars. Try calling Kia US directly at 1-800-333-4542 and ask them directly about a service manual. A full factory manual will still probably be in the $300 range, but it is very doubtful that they would refuse to sell one.

Uh, Kia service information is 100% free. You can sign up and view the same stuff their dealer techs get. I've used to it go get factory wiring diagrams and other such documentation that would otherwise not be available.

If you need a service manual to do brakes, though...you should not be doing brakes.

You can't get the Kia manual at the dealer. They seem to use an on line system for dealer mechanics. I suggest you contact Chilton at the link below. They have both on line (with monthly or yearly prices to access) or you can usually get the print copy for what you need. Manual in print form runs around $80 or so .. be sure to call first to verify which one covers the vehicle you need. Another alternative would be manuals from Motor, but they are geared more to the trade techs and are more expensive.
