Want to get some idea on wall mounted shelving for the garage. I've look at the closetmaid wire shelf systems and they seem okay. I was also looking at some heavy duty wall brackets that could hold shelves about 18-24" deep. Just curious what other people are using or if I'm overlooking options for the garage.
 
I recently bought 3 shelving units from Costco for my garage. They usually go for around $80 and were on sale for just over half of that price. Tool-less assembly, 5 melamine shelves, metal frame. You could probably secure them against the wall.

2x4's and plywood...strong, cheap, and depending on your carpentry skills, either very good looking...or butt-ugly. In either case, they're still MUCH stronger than the ones you're looking at.
 
I'm with boomer.
I used 2x2 on the walls and to frame the edge of the shelves. I put 2x2 legs between each shelf about 5' on center, then 2x2 legs angled back into the wall at the bottom. Put 1/2" plywood over everything and proceed to load the crap out of them. Been 6 or 7 years and they are still straight and grossly overloaded.

when my dad added shelving to his garage, he used 2x4's anchored to the wall for the base, then plywood sheets on top of that. then flattened ends of small segments of metal conduit to act as load bearing straps between the shelves and the cieling, so that he wouldn't have to put angled brackets underneath to support the load.
 
Depending on when you look Sears will often have Gladiator shelving on sale. Lowes used to as well but it looks like they have cleared out most of their inventory. I've really liked it but wouldn't pay anywhere near regular retail price for them.

For longer term storage a lot of people over look the space between the garage door tracks and the garage ceiling. For about $40 in 2x4s, brackets, bolts and OSB I built a 4'6"x8' storage bin above the garage door that will hold in excess of 400lbs

For shelving you might also want to check and see if you have any reuse/recycle stores around. I got some 18" deep non-stained birch cabinets from the Habitat for Humanity Restore center. I got them on one of their sale days and paid about $30 for 9'

See when you get into the kind of shelves linked above and the ones below that are grid like (Rubbermaid) stuff such as your bug sprays don't stay on them well. They tend to tip as they fall through the 'cracks'. You can easily remedy it by using some 1/4 or thinner wood to lay on top of them so they are smooth, but it obviously adds to the cost.

They work great for bigger items like fertilizer.

If you don't have the skill set to make them out of wood, then I'd recommend those steel shelves that are solid design like this: http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2658819&cagpspn=pla

I use a bunch of these from Costco for ~$60/each. They can stand as 1 unit or 2 half units.

I find wire shelving in the garage to be VERY annoying.
