about $2k (but paid ~$1400 cuz of 30% off gift certificate) for a new 2 cars garage door, new tracks, and opener. I got the Raynor Centura from their Innovations Series due to high R-value.
Did you do it from a mom and pop or a big box store?
Got a steel backed, injection insulated (much higher R value), decorative carriage house door - a Haas model 246 L. Looks a little like this one, but with wider carriage style panels, and more panes in our windows. It looks so good we have had cars stop and comment on it, and I love the steel back and insulation. Injection is better than insulated backing.

We also got a Liftmaster 8550 opener w/ battery backup, motion detector, outside keypad, and myQ cell phone monitoring/control. There is a Chamberlain model that is nearly identical except for the color and the rail is split on it (can rattle). I strongly recommend the Liftmaster. It is extremely quiet, lots of features, and reasonably priced.

I think I paid $1500 for everything. Very happy with the purchase. Totally worth it.

Unfortunately all that R value goes out the window, literally, once you put windows on a garage door. If you want a well insulated door don't put windows in it.
having one installed this week. 16x7 old school plywood/particleboard heavier than hell garage door. replacing with a mid tier door, 2 steel layers with Styrofoam inside, 2" door. 9r but not really counting on it for insulation but rigidity and sound absorption. No windows, complete rip and replace, keeping existing garage door opener. about $1100.
R value is meaningless if the rest or some of the garage is uninsulated. My high R value garage door did not make any diff to the garage temperature in the winter due to the garage walls are not insulated.
The other thing to consider is most garage doors are made of metal. The door itself is far more conductive of heat and cold unless it's made of wood or another material. Placing a decent amount of insulation inside of or sandwiched between 2 layers of metal will make a difference in the amount of radiant heat it conducts...as for cold, proper gaskets and seals make a huge difference. When it's 30 degrees outside at night, it's typically 50 degrees in my garage by morning (warmer in the day time). This past winter, when it was 0 degrees outside, it was 28 degrees inside....but that was uninsulated. Different ballgame this coming winter.Insulation effects the rate at which the interior temperature changes due to a change in the outside temperature. Your garage still got just as cold but at a slower rate due to the insulated door, so it's not completely meaningless. Without adding heat even the most heavily insulated room will eventually reach the same temperature as outside.
You're right though. It's a little silly to only insulate the door and not the rest of the room.
