Was over at friend's house tonight and they had this installed on their garage door. It was about 42 degrees outside but inside the garage, it was noticeably warmer.

Reviews seemly fairly positive...alot of them mention using white gorilla duct tape to help keep the panels in place (my friend did that as well)...

My master bedroom is above my garage so I wonder what effect it would have on my cooling bills in the summer....

Anyone here have any experience with insulating their garage door?

Instead I just bought and installed an insulated garage door.

Sheetmetal | Insulation | Sheetmetal sandwich. And it looks better on the inside.

Easy to install. My wife and I installed it in less than 8 hours including new rails etc.

Had that on my house in Ohio. It was pretty substantial difference, even on sub-zero days. In Georgia, the garage is probably only 20F or so over the outside temp when it's cold out.

I like the finished look on the inside over insulation taped in place.

So I went with a different kit that had pretty good reviews..

installation was very straight forward and I had it installed in about 3 hours...

But it was still pretty chilly afterwards...and this is why:

I will install some weather stripping around the door to see if that helps...

Bonus thermal image pic showing that the insulation does make a difference though:

Yes, weather stripping should help. When I was wrestling with the same issue, I noticed that the inside edge of the wood framing around the opening of my garage doors had slots cut into them. I found out that these were meant to accommodate some vinyl weather stripping that had apparently never been installed. I ended up buying this:

It fit in the slot perfectly. Reasonably easy to install (with a little dish soap for lubrication) and it holds in the slot without any adhesive. The only downside was that I had to readjust the door tracks a bit to get a little more room between the door and the framing so the weather stripping would fit.
