Does anyone have any experience with these firsthand?

If so, which ones? I'm just curious as to how many effects and loops they come with and curious about how good they are. I don't want to drop a bill on one of them and be unsatisfied.

Well, it depends on what type of music you are creating. Do you need World Instruments? Then grab that pack, do you need more Rhythm? Grab that pack.

Strictly from the loops aspect, I don't feel that they are that worth it, but the extra instruments that you gain from the packs are very nice. I have the Rhythm Pack, but nothing else at the moment and I definitely like the extra drums, etc... that you get access to.

I want the rhythm pack most actually, so can you tell me how it is as far as variety of styles go? I'm assuming it's mostly rock, which is what I'd be looking for.

I've got a friend who likes to mess around on it too and he wants the remix pack so he can make crazy techno songs, but I told him I doubt he can justify spending $89 + tax on something just to mess around on it.

Yea.. it's mostly just a few rhythm synths, but you get A WHOLE lot more drum sets. So it's definitely a lot more versatile when you go to record drum tracks.

I actually recommend "dfh EzDrummer" if you're wanting to do strictly rock, though. This program is simply stunning. It uses it's own sounds, and really makes midi drums sound real. I am quite impressed by this program. If you'd like a bit more control, you can pick up "dfh Superior" instead. They're both by a company called Toontrack.
