I have been searching for a good mobile gfx/animation workstation for some time now and just realized that the performance gap between desktop workstations and notebooks gets wider with every year it seems.
I was ready to pull the trigger on a Precision M4400 but then heard lots of customer complains about heat and gpu downclocking, even with a C2D and the slower FX770.
And let's say you would opt for the best of the best: a C2Quad extreme and the FX1700 or better still wouldn't match a good desktop workstation. Especially shader unit count is too low on the mobile parts.
(only 32 on the FX1700)
And for the price of such a machine I could get two very good desktop Quadcores.
So I decided to wait it out till the end of 09 and see if the 32nm parts will make a difference and if Nvidia will get their act together and produce something cooler (watercooling?)
Otherwise my only solution will be to build 2-3 normal desktops at every location I need work to be done and one ultramobile 13'' for presentations.
What's your thought on this?
