Sometimes the tree is hard to see for the forest. I agree with you. Unganged not only should be faster, in my mind, it is faster. Ganged mode is 1x128bit dual channel and unganged mode is 2x64 bit dual channel. Most programs that test for bandwidth are not testing Phenom correctly. They are testing with a one threaded algorithmic mode. I

Long story short, ganged treats the memory subsystem as a single 128-bit bus, while unganged treats the memory subsystem as dual independent 64-bit buses. Ganged favors some single-threaded software, but AMD generally recommends unganged for typical modern system configurations, especially if you are commonly multitasking multiple applications.

Note: it looks like there is about a .6% to 1% difference in speed in the real world.

Games definitely favor the Unganged mode. At that 3 of 7 show rather considerable values. Call of Duty is this article champion, showing the record 6.5% difference between the Ganged and Unganged modes (Unganged wins).

Overall: .5% better....so, we just wasted more time researching it than you will save over the next year running in unganged mode.
