Gamma correction for nvidia cards?

Are there any utilities that can alter the gamma of OpenGL and D3D games? Any current or past 3DFX card owners know what I'm talking about where there is a utility that allowed you to change the gamma of OpenGL and D3D without changing the gamma of the desktop.

Is there anything like this for nvidia cards? I like my Gainward GF3 Ti200 card but my biggest grudge is it's gamma.. it's terrible. No matter what I use to change the gamma, it's either too bright for the desktop or not bright enough for games.

I've tried powerstrip, nvmax, and the gamma correction utility in the drivers.

Any help is appreciated

I can't be sure but I think I recall the GeForce Tweak utility offering that ability.... however I havent used said program in quite awhile so I'm not sure.
Personally, I've simply resorted to using the in game gamma controls though it does cause a very slight drop in performance vs. adjusting the gamma in the driver properties.

Okay, I'll try to download that utility sometime and see if it works.

The problem is, in some games like Counter-Strike, the gamma is already set on max and it's still too dark. Games like Max Payne are fine though.

Use the QuickTweak utility that's built right into your drivers.

Huh? Whether or not the game or your driver sets the gamma levels it makes no difference to the speed of the games. Do your games run slower when you raise the brightness of your monitor? Of course they don't.

You wouldnt think so but I primarily play sports games and RPG's.... performance takes a very significant hit under Baldurs Gate if you change gamma settings in game, I've experienced it and the manual comfirms this. Also Electronic Arts tech support claims a 5-8% performance deficet if you later gamma settings in-game rather then via the driver properties.

I'm not sure why, though I would hazard a guess that altering the gamma settings in game causes an additional overhead that isnt present when altering gamma through the driver properties.

Edit: How do you do it through the QuickTweak utility?
It doesnt seem to have anything more then shortcuts for the regular gamma adjustment options that don't allow specifying DirectX/OpenGL/2D specific gamma.
Using the 21.83 Det4's if it makes a diff.

Then it sounds like the games are doing something very screwy which they shouldn't be. All they should be doing is setting the gamma level just like the drivers do.

Possibly but again that should not be the case.

In your colour correction section make a few custom gamma levels and save them. Then just before you launch the game, use QuickTweak to quickly change to one of them.
