Gamma changing too much

I upped my Gamma when i was playing a game, from the settings in the game, then i went back to my desktop and the gamma change i made was still apparent, though i don't want that much gamma while on my desktop. So now whenever i play a game or something and come back to my desktop it's too bright, and i have to go to the color options and change it back everytime. How can i stop this from happening?
