Gaming

What do you think is better spend a good amount of money on a pc video card to be able to use your pc for gaming as well or buy a console just for gaming and be able to build a cheaper pc sense you won't be using it for gaming?

I would go for the PC

The Console has a limited range of options you can do, and are usually over priced (in terms of hardware/software worth)
Also, you can upgrade a computer

The one huge disadvantage with pc games is a lot of really great games made by EA are ram hogs! Argggggggg

I hate this problem because the only way to fix it is of course buy more ram.

I think it depends on what you want it for. If you like to invite your friends over and play sports games or platformers or arcade racers, or have a SO or kids that you want to play with, then console. If you like to play classic pc style games, RPG's, RTS, flight/racing/combat simulators, etc. then PC. I think it has to do more with whatever culture of gaming you're looking for than cost/performace (however since every middle class household in the West already has a PC, it makes more sense to just get a $150 video card than a $500 console [and don't forget the HDTV]).

Here's the thing.

If you are really poor, buy a console.
If you got the cash, build a powerful gaming computer. So what if EA games are RAM hogs? 2 gigs should be enough, and that's what today's midrange/high end gaming computers come with. If EA games will give you so much trouble (which they shouldn't with 2gb), just buy 2more GB for total of 4gb - no game uses even close to 4gb RAM (on reasonable resolutions)!
PC is much more expensive than a console, and it WILL keep draining $$ for constant updates and complete rebuilds, but it's well worth it 🙂

Bottom line - if you are cheap, buy a console. If you are middle class, buy a PC + upgrades.
If you are rich...buy both.

Edit: give us the specs of PC you have now. CPU, RAM, AGP or PCI-E, etc if you want to upgrade your comp, not build a new one.

Yeah but the thing is even if you have a pc now. When you wait forever to upgrade or build a new pc sooner or later you will have to rebuild a whole new pc just about. The reason being is your whole pc becomes so outdated you need to replace your motherboard, processor, power supply, cables, and video card. So its sorta like you already didn't have a pc when you wait over 5 to 7 years to upgrade your pc.

I don't even have to tell you the specs by just saying my pc still has a agp slot should tell you its very old.

My socket 939 motherboard has an AGP slot as well and can use some pretty damn fast dual core CPUs along side an AMD X1950 Pro (or you can now buy an XT) AGP.

Ok well then this should guarantee you that my pc is very old. It only has sdram slots.

Then a video card update won't do wonders...buy a console or build completely new PC for ~$1000

That was my point. There no way around building a whole new pc because my system is so old now. I guess thats what happens when you wait 5 to 7 years to build a whole new pc.

PC: free user mods and content

PS2: dozens of RPGs and games of every other kind. Lots of dirt-cheap older but good games, that you know will "just work" unlike older Win95/98 games in XP, and games in general under Vista.

Wii: arm-waving fun! yay! "graphics don't matter."

360: big library of shooters and sports. Oblivion but as a shadow of the PC version since it can't run mods.

PS3: come back next year unless you want a blu-ray player. It's crushing the 360 in Japan (though nowhere else) so the JRPGs and Gundams will be coming.

Yes clearly EA, Hitachi, Micron and Samsung are all part of a great conspiracy to bloat graphics textures and map density in order to make you buy more RAM... 😕

Besides the bugs, EA also shoves unskippable "EA CHALLENGE EVERYTHING!" logos down our throats in case you forgot who made the game.

Most companies also have their logos at the start sequence of their programs or games. If it annoys you so much you can remove the video file from the game directory like I did, and you'll never see it again.

(Or replace it with blank 1 frame video)

I hate gaming on consoles. I don't enjoy "Arcade" style gaming which is what console gaming is.

I have to have a PC so it might as well play some awesome games also.

My vote goes for PC.

PC. Not sure why, i guess because I can use it for more than just gaming. Most games i've played on console and PC, I've preferred the PC version. Halo, for example
