Gaming with internet explorer windows open

So on Vista, if I have internet explorer windows open while I'm gaming, do these open windows hog resources?

I think I read somewhere that your desktop gets disabled...

It'll use up ram but other than that there wont be a measurable affect unless the website you have open has a bunch of CPU hogging flash animations or something.

I can play about any MMO with 4 gigs installed and IE going, tabbing between the 2, with no effect.

On 2 meg machines it is noticeable and occasionally crashes.

It depends on the game.

Running WoW full screen, and alt-tabbing out is kind of slow. It takes several seconds to paint the desktop etc..

But, if you can run the game in windowed mode, it's utterly seamless - especially with Vista. Flip3d with a game running, media playing etc.. all at once is wicked cool 🙂

Of course, I have 4gb of RAM... So should everyone else at these prices 😀
