Gaming with headphones...don't you miss the **BOOM**?

A long time ago, I had a really nice pair of Senheisser (sp?) headphones that I used with my stereo and my walkman (do they still call them "Walkman?") Those headphones disappeared when my ex threw my butt out. Long story, long time ago.

Anyway, I'm getting tired of my next door neighbor calling the police at 7:00 PM. Yes, you read that right, 7 in the evening. Nope, she doesn't work nights. As a matter of fact, she doesn't work at all...lazy b*tch; she let's her husband bring home the bacon. She complains that "the bass wakes up my baby." Well that is not my problem. I don't crank it up when it reaches 10:00PM. As a matter of fact, I turn it waaaay down. As in almost background sound as it gets about 9:45 as to not get anywhere near the 10PM-to-10AM "quiet hours". I've had multiple run ins w/her. See my signature below!

So, I've been thinking about getting headphones, but I like feeling the rumble of the explosions and the music. That's why I spend $$$ on PM's for cryin' out loud. So, when U wear headphones, are they the little Walkman type or the over-the-ear studio monitor type and don't you miss **THE BOOM?**

Go to Best Buy and get a pair of Koss UR30's or UR 20's.

They are over the ear and are a great pair of headphones for $20 to $30.

You might miss the boom that shakes the floor but these headphones and others that are better (Sennheiser) add little details to music and games that very few if any computer speaker setup can duplicate. I prefer headphones for serious gaming over speakers and 90% of the boom will be there, just at your ears.

I'd use the speakers regardless of what the neighbors say. I say this because my friend is in a similar situation and he turned to headphones. The downstairs people complain and he has Altec Lansing ACS45.1 speakers...those are not strong at all...although the subwoofer does produce deep bass with only 20watts of power behind it. Get your neighbors some earplugs and tell her to shut her trap....and turn your ProMedias UP....enjoy it ..you paid for it....no one should be allowed to tell you to turn them down ...they're only computer speakers after all =).

Don't you have a friend with a chainsaw that you could tune-up for him in your apartment. Model airplanes are good too.

Guess I'm lucky. My neighbor calls and says, "hey, crank that sh*t up!"

Actually a good pair of headphones has surprisingly good bass.
It won't shake your floor or your windows, but it will definately rumble.

Why don't you save up some of that money so you can move to a house? I really miss mine. That's the only real solution to your problem (headphones will do quite nicely in the meantime ;)).

Personally I always error on the side of not annoying people with bass/extra noise. Just use head phones and keep the peace. If you live in an apartment you have to keep the noise down. It might suck for you but how is wearing headphones so bad? I don't miss the bass at all when I'm playing Counter-Strike. With headphones it is much better too because I can hear directionally when I turn around - something that does not work well with speakers.

It's good karma to make sure the baby sleeps well even if it does have an annoying mom ;).

Wow! Thanks for all the great replies. I am a considerate neighbor. I don't blast my stereo any more than anyone else does. Do I blast it? That's a BIG 10-4. I crank that sucker all the way up. But only during the proper time of day in which to do it. I grew up in apartments. I know all about the upstairs neighbors having a party all night, every weekend, until 0400. All about it. Part of the downside to living in an apartment complex is having to coexist w/your neighbors. That's why they call it a complex; it's not just you. You have to deal with others, just like they have to deal with you.

I already know that none of my neighbors works nights, therefore they sleep during the day. It would be rude of me to blast the tunes/computer intentionally knowing that someone is sleeping on the other side of the wall. She bitches just to bitch. I make sure that when I do game, I do it twice as loud as I did before. I did that for about a month and she stopped coming to my door. She did start calling the police. I politely explain the story to them and remind them of the 2200-1000 hours city noise ordinance. Then I point out that it's only 1930 or whatever. They get pissed and leave. I crank it up some more. But, I am tired of the Cop Banging on the door. Five times in about the past month or so. Always the same cops, since she always seems to call between 1800-2100 or so.

Sigh. I guess I'll get me some headphones. I've never gamed w/phones, so I have to give it an honest shot. Thanks again. See you guys in the Forums!

Get a pair of Koss Porta-Pros, they have pretty good bass, and nice sound. Couple it with a moderately priced 'headbanger' amp and you will eliminate distortion at higher volumes. I love em.
