Gaming Systems/CPU

That's a very broad question.

Most would agree that an Athlon 64 would be the best for gaming right now, but a p4 @ 3.0Ghz+ is no slouch.

I have always used Intel cpu's but the AMD's seem to have the faster fps for gaming from what I have read.AMD seems to be much less
expensive also.

Yeah, often they do produce higher fps and they are also less expensive (however the Athlon 64 isnt nearly as cheap as the current socket A chips).

Cpu is somewhat important for gaming, but if you have anything faster than 2.4ghz p4 or 2500+ athlon xp, it's the videocard which will limit your performance and CPU will not matter so much.

I'd say for a budget computer system get Athlon XP Barton 2500+, for a mid-range rig a 2.8ghz p4, and for a high end system a 3000+ or 3200+ Athlon 64. but again especially in higher resolutions like 1600x1200 with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering enabled, your cpu performance will not matter whatsoever, unless you have 1ghz p3.

Going with the consensus here. AMD is the solid performer here, and the better price for what you get.

Taking the FX and EE out of the mix due to bend over and say "how much?!?" pricing 😛 @stock speeds the A64 is the best gaming CPU.
