Gaming router recommendations.....

im looking for a fast router that i will use for WIRED gaming, i also need it to be wireless so i can use my laptop in another room, im using the engenius 9850 now and im not really feeling it, i looked at a new asus on small netbuilder and it looked pretty promising, just looking for some feedback,,thx

What exactly are you looking for? Most decent routers are going to have good gigabit wired connections. The big differences lay in wireless performance and features.

I generally stay away from Linksys, tons of poor experiences with them, and have good experiences with Netgear. D-Link was overrated when I had one.

I just replaced an older Netgear with a WNR3500L and for the price, I love it! Gig wired and N wireless, USB NAS support, latest encryption and it games great. It also supports DD-WRT if you want to go that route.

I don't think there's really such thing as a gaming router (and if there is it's just a marketing gimmick). Personally I would just go to a linksys/cisco wireless N router. I've had one for a couple years now, and it's much better than the POS D-link I had before. I've had nothing but bad experiences with D-link.

Maybe a few choices for you, each have: Xtreme N, Gigabit, Wireless, Broadband Router . Some take it further with dual bands that operate at the same time.
Newegg can be your new best friend with plenty of choices, or any other reputable vender.

The D-Link DIR-655 doesn't have dual bands, but it does "give voice, gaming, or media streaming priority over other data. The DIR-655 has integrated Intelligent QoS (quality of service) technology to do just that. The DIR-655 got pretty good reviews@ Newegg.

I have used the Dual band D-Link DIR-825, for about 3yrs. now. No problems. I piggyback it off my Verizon Fios POS wireless router, but they are hard wired.
We mostly game and stream a little from Netflix on a Blu-ray.Never any lag.

In general for wire connection it does not matter what you use.

For Wireless it depends on what you do with the Wireless and the environmental conditions.

Thus far the thread provides No data to make a decision.

D-Link "Good", Linksys "Bad", Netgear "both", and vice versa is just a Compu-socio-cliches and has nothing to do with technology.

If the need is for a good Router with long distance cover, and regular surfing bandwidth that can stay on 802.11g.

Beyond this the selection gets to a level that the user needs to download the targeted devices extended manual and make sure that the specific needs (that hopefully he/she can define clearly) are available in the product of their choice.

Gaming over wireless is a mistake. half duplex for the loss.
