Gaming rig - Upgrading parts

Hey guys,

I am very computer illiterate , need your advise on some potential additions to my gaming rig.

I use a HP Z640 workstation with the following specs:

2x HexaCore Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3, 1900 MHz (19 x 100)

GtX 1080
192GB Ram
Windows 10
925W PSU
Sound Blaster Z PCIe (Arriving this week)

My full spec report can be downloaded from here. (apologies for hosting it externally, I dont seem to be able to attach files internally)

Z640 quick spec sheet

1) I want to get a crucial SSD - will this fit into my rig?

2) How good is my processor when it comes to gaming?
Ideally I want to upgrade to an i5 or i7 which might be more suited to gaming. Can you recommend a good gaming one that has a good performance as well as being power efficient (wont get overheated) (budget: $400 USD)

3) I want to upgrade my motherboard too , to a gaming centric one. Any recommendation for one that will fit my criteria and slot into my rig ?

4) Is my PSU sufficient?

5) I want to add more CPU cooler fans just to keep heat optimum, which one should I get that will fit my rig ?

Thanks guys

You should be able to. As far as the CPUs go, the low clockspeeds will hinder your gaming performance. How in hell did you end with a workstation class system?

I'm thinking a complete noob who just happen by dumb luck to find a real good deal on Ebay, or is actually doing stuff that requires an actual workstation. Maybe both?

Its the latter - except i Don't do any work on it. Thanks everyone for their input - kind and unkind alike 🙂
