Hello,

I was recently thinking about upgrading my gaming PC and wanted to know if I would be seeing any significant difference in gaming if I move to a i7-7700 or a Ryzen 1700 processor.

My current system specs are as follows:

Processor: Intel i5-2500k
Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A-UD3R-B3
Cooler: Corsair H80
Memory: 8GB (4GB X 2) G.Skill Sniper
GPU: Asus ROG Strix 8GB RX480 (Recently upgraded from a Sapphire HD 7850)
120GB X 2 Samsung EVO SSD's
PSU: Seasonic X750 (750 Watts) Gold

I game on 1920 X 1080 resolution and only play single player games. Most of the current games are running fine on the system as of now but the processor, motherboard and the cooler is about 5-6 years old now so was also wondering if it's a good time to upgrade them now or if I should wait till the end of this year and then change them.

Kind share your thoughts on this.

Regards,

An Intel Core i7 7700 (non K) is good as you do not plan to overclock. TDP is only 65W which is nothing for your H80 to handle. See if your current Corsair H80 can fit in Socket 1151. If it can, reuse it.

Get a Intel B250 Chipset motherboard. It won't support overclocking but that is fine.

You have a RX 480. I suggest buying a LG 27MP68HM Monitor from Paytm. It has Freesync which goes a long way in giving a smooth gaming experience.
Get 2 x 8 GB DDR4 2400. Any brand will do at default stock speeds as you don't plan to overclock.

You already have a super awesome PSU. Keep it.

Sell both your SSD and get a MyDigitalSSD BPX 256 GB M.2 SSD from Onlyssd.com. They are Mumbai based. Also install a regular 1 TB WD Blue HDD for storage needs.

Core i7 7700K will be better if you can pay. You will need to check if your H80 can handle this 95W CPU easily or not.

Thank-you for the reply, appreciate it!

So, wait till August end?

Initially when Coffee Lake is released, prices will be very high in India. But that will reduce the cost of Core i7 7700/7700k. This is also what I am waiting for to upgrade my CPU from Core i5 7500 to Core i7 7700.
