Looking to finally upgrade... been about 5 years and I've been totally out of the loop considering hardware. Good friend told me you guys are the best so figured I'd give it a shot

1. Will be used for Gaming, gaming and some more gaming.

2. Looking in the $1200 range, $200 more or less could work as well. Obviously, cheaper the better

3. I'll be buying from USA. Newegg I presume, unless directed otherwise.

4. No real brand preference, I'm thinking I do want an i7 though, most likely the 860.

5. It's possible I may use my current hard drive which is a 10,000 rpm raptor drive. Probably not though. I will use my CD/DVD roms/monitor/mouse/kb, I hope most of thats all obvious :)

6. I have read a few other threads but not too much

7. NO over clocking for me, I'll run the system at default speeds.

8. I play games competitively so I normally play with a semi lower resolution, generally 800x600 or 1024x768 depending on the game. It'll go up higher for single player games BUT that's not a huge deal for me whatsoever. I certainly don't care about maxing out my res, etc.

9. I plan to build it within the next week. Quicker the better. I mean cmon MW2 just came out ;)

Thanks for all the help

1) Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D LE - $129.99
2) CPU: i7 860 - $289.99
3) Memory: 4GB G.Skill DDR3-1333 1.5v - $91.99
4) Video Card: HIS 4850 512MB - $109.99
5) Power Supply: Corsair TX750 - $109.99 before $20 MIR
6) Case Cooler Master HAF-922 Mid Tower - $99.98

Total $831.93 before shipping.

You can use your HDD and actually if you wanted to you could add a SSD like Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G1 80GB for $259 and load your OS and a couple of your most used programs to it for super fast load times. That would bring the total to $1090.93. That's completely optional though. The stock HSF that comes with the CPU will be fine for someone who is not overclocking. The 750watt PSU might be overkill for the system but it offers some future-proofing if you ever decide to overclock or do a SLI or crossfire system.

all prices from newegg and just done quickly. Not digging for the cheapest of the cheap. Actually the Motherboard is more than a pure budget board.

Thanks CMD, I decided to head this direction, please advise, or anyone else for that matter :)

i7-920- $288
No idea for mobo (please help me out here)
HD 5850 - $299.99
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)- $149.99
Corsair TX750? This seems good enough?

Case is open for suggestions-
Was looking at Coolermaster haf 932 or an Antec 900 or COOLER MASTER RC-690

Hard drive is also open for suggestions- I may keep my raptor but what would you recommend HD wise? SSD are beautiful but unless there are some great deals I don't think I want to spend 250 on one.

Thanks again

Keeo yout velociraptor and get a 1TB Black Western Digital. The Corsair PSU is great. I see you moved to a bit more high end with a 5850 (can you actually find one in stock?). For motherboards I'd look at the Asus P6T (not the Deluxe). It's the same board minus a few features you might not need. Overclocks the same.

However I should mention the x58 offers you nothing, absolutely nothing right now that the P55 doesn't do or have unless you are planning to run SLI or crossfire and/or hoping to buy a $500+ 6core cpu sometime later. Why spend more?
