Gaming RIG for less that 1000$ -- Need input

Dear All

I am planning on making myself a gaming rig.

I am not a very knowledgeable person with the new technologies floating around today.

Thus any and all inputs would be highly appreciated.

Now before i start let me clarify the budget break ups i am looking for.

Please recommend parts i should go for.

Break up of USD 1000 Budget is as follows:

1. Power supply
2. Motherboard
3. CPU
4. Heatsink/fan for the CPU
5. Memory -- DDR 2 vs DDR3 (Please recommend)
6. Primary hard drive
7. Video card - Single card/Dual card setup is entirely upto cost vs benefit ratio

Other Recommendations Requested for
1. Operating System --
2. Optical Drive

Personally i have had good experience with AMD however i am not averse to going for Intel.

Oh and i will be buying my parts from Singapore. As i am traveling there in a couple of days.

Please if any of you know great stores to go for these parts in Singapore please feel free to recommend.

bud i would love to do that, however i am from India. getting best of the breed parts in india is a tough battle.

I tried getting stuff from USA it came damaged. it put back my build by almost a year.

As they say if it is important enough , one should do the work themselves .. or words to that effect.

Anyways any help would be appreciated. 😀
