Okay guys, I definetly have an idea of what I want just need your opinion. I will probobly be ordering this on wensday.

The very max i can spend is $1530. What i need in that is an amd proc, 7800gt, non-sli mobo, 19inch crt, and the rest is up to you. I need everything from newegg.

Thanks a bunch!

your on the right track, exactly where i would start if i was you, woot!

dual cores seem to be the next "big" thing so keep that in mind, but you could always spread the wealth elsewhere

as for a monitor id recommend samsung (i use a 19" 997df) or NEC

videocard looks GREAT and SLI just doesnt seem worth it....for 2 times the heat and noise your basically just getting the "next" videocard for the price you would pay for a single slot card...my two cents lol

enjoy!

Will you be overclocking? Doing anything other than gaming?

Oh well, see if this fit's in budget:

CPU: 3800+ X2
MB: A8N-E (or a DFi if you're into overclocking)
RAM: 2GB value RAM
VC: You want a 7800gt(x) dont you?

Case: Whatever you like the look of. Antec has lots of nice ones.
PSU: Antec TruePowerII 430W-550W (anything decent in this range should be fine)

Optical1: DVD Burner (eg. Pioneer DVR-109)
Optical2: DVD-ROM (Cheap Lite-On or similar)
HDD: 250GB Seagate/Western Digital SATA/SATAII (preferably a SATAII with ncq.)

K/B & Mouse: Whatever you like using. I recomend a Logitech mouse.
Monitor: 19" Flat CRT

mainly gaming and schoolwork. maybe minimal overclocking, nothing but stock cooling

looking at the thermaltake soprano, seems to have best features (window, 2x120mm, 1x90mm fans, good looking) for only like $75

was also looking at the samsung 19 inch crt model, looks decent

heres what i think sounds decent

3500 venice
msi neo4 platinum (Non-sli)
2x512 ocz performance series
160gb wd sata2
benq 1640
logitech z3-e

with everything else it comes out to around $1500(including monitor, keyboard, mouse, and xp home)

sound good? anything i can improve yet still stay in my budget?

That along with the 7800gt would be a very good gaming system. It's pretty similar to my system, which to me has plenty of power.

buy the academic version of windows xp PRO, unless you school offers a better deal from them you can buy windows xp pro acadmic for like $80 on newegg.com

i have the apace for a crt, but i dont have enough money for an lcd. plus my $2000 monitor has a recommened resolution of 1600 by 1200, with a max of like 1900 by something. does a $200 lcd have those kinds of features?
