Gaming RAM for now and later...

Because of BF2, I'm thinking about upgrading to 2 x 1 GB sticks for the setup in my sig. Perfomance-wise, would it be better to have tighter timings or a higher frequency? Should I keep the divider and find something with tight timings at around 225 Mhz or aim for 1:1 and 275+ Mhz? Would I be able to reuse this sticks if I planned on building a relatively up to date AMD gaming computer in about a year's time?

Besides the RAM reviewed here at Anandtech, does anybody have other suggestions? How about Ballistix? How about GSkill / Geil / Mushkin?

Thanks for all the help!

GSkill, Geil, and Mushkin are all high quality brands.

It is much more important to have a higher frequency, but timings do help. Higher frequency equates to pushing through more information, lower timings kind of means it can get the information ready to pipe out quicker.

I think AMD is moving to DDR2 fairly soon (1 year?) But I could be wrong about that. Frankly I run BF2 with a A63 3700+, 1GB ram, and a stock 6800GT and it works like a charm. One weakness is my slow HD for loading levels 😛

Thanks for the info everyone. Does anybody have personal recommendations/links on some 2x1 GB sticks that can run at high frequencies? I need to get to 275 or so to match my CPU. Voltage shouldn't be a problem with the AI7. Thanks!

I recently bought 2x2x512 Kingston HyperX for $222 shipped next day (ordered at 10 pm and arrived at 2 pm next day). This was way beeter than 2x512 Mushkin redline. Runs in dual channel on an FX53 system.

Probably the best bang for the buck right now.
