I have a beefy rig but I'm CPU bound in Arma 2. Would going from onboard sound to separate sound card improve performance. I have an old Audigy 2 but haven't used a sound card in a while because onboard is good and easy.
Alternatively would a card with say 64Mb ram be noticeably better than the Audigy, obviously a new card with 64mb is better but would I notice difference in fps?

Windows 7 API has made the DSP of sound cards obsolete. At this point the only thing they are worth is the quality of their pre-outs.

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I suspected but you've saved me a few ££$$'s

yea esp now that 4 core is pretty standard on a gaming rig, it is of no benefit.
