Gaming Pc/Cost & Information Help

Just wondering how much would a good gaming rig cost me ? I mostly play counter strike source but i want a good graphics card and everything so i can play on high settings with good fps. Currently im using a dell dimension e520

2 GB RAM 667mhz ( DDR2 )
250 GB Hard Drive
Nvidia Geforce 7300 Le ( 128mb ) <-- awful
OCZ 600 Watt Psu
2.66 GHZ Inten Pentium CPU

The heatsink on this pc takes up way too much space and this tower is very small too, and i was thinking of sli in the future possibly so i would have to get a new motherboard anyways.

Would it be better to upgrade my motherboard n get a smaller but better heatsink and get a better graphics card or go with a whole entire new comp ?

If you're trying to save some money, I guess you could go new mobo, quad core processor (cheap!), and new graphics cards. I'm not sure how well SLI will help improve your performance(performance/price wise anyways).

I new motherboard isn't likely to fit in your Dell E520 case. Dell's midrange systems are not good for anything better than midrange gaming.

I would ditch the idea of SLI/Crossfire. They are more of a headache than helpful. A single, fast video card is a better option.

What is your budget? Also, what model is that pentium 2.66Ghz, is it a Pentium D?

yes its a pentium D , and my budget id say would be around 700-800. I have enough power for a good video card, like an 8800 gtx but im afraid if it will even fit into my case, but i also keep my side cover open to let some heat out since this pc has terrible cooling. But for the video card i would get the 8800 gtx for free because of somebody i kno i just need to get him an 6 pin to 8 pin adapter so he can use his new card ( 9800gx2 ) so he could give his 8800, so i would not have to spend money on a graphics card if i wanted to build a new pc which would save me money

I was thinking of buildin a pc and not buying one and replacing parts again, i made a mistake with the dell i have right now currently. like i said, i already have a psu i got use, which is 600 watts from ocz, already got a monitor, a great video card which i will get very shortly( BFG 8800 GTX OC ) . that just saved me 400-500 right there
